Keith Vernon’s signature style in the Waikato
When Signature Homes wanted to evolve their approach at their new Waikato show home they turned to Keith Vernon Design. The renowned local interior designer’s wide-ranging network and years of experience helped deliver a bold new tone to the stylish home.
Keith had a very specific brief. “We needed a new design approach – something with a contemporary edge that was fresh and new to the market,” he says.
“The market for Waikato had traditionally been more focused on the lifestyle and rural categories,” Keith says. “We worked with more of an inner city client in mind.”
“I wanted to create something different for the franchise,” he continues. “I needed to bring them more to the upper end of the Auckland market.”
Sourcing eye-catching new style was a priority. Having dealt with Kovacs for years Keith said, “I know and I respect the furniture. I’ve been down (to Christchurch) and toured the factory to get a strong understanding of the range.”
Keith also appreciated the flexibility a New Zealand-made company offered. “I can create a new look for a piece with this approach – if I want metal legs instead of wooden they’ll work with me.”
“Working with Samm and the team everything was very easy,” he says. “The stops were pulled out too. We were up against it time wise but Hildy (Kovacs) made it happen.”
One piece in particular, the Loft settee, has been “spectacular” for the home says Keith. “The reaction it has had has been enormous.” The Verdi and Grace Chairs also made a strong impression on browsers and buyers.
After opening in mid-July the crowds have been flocking to the show home, and Signature Homes have already sold the home – and the furniture in it. With multiple enquiries every week Signature Homes are thrilled and Keith now has another large project where he’s looking to install two more Lofts.
