Wellington Design Library puts on a show
A good trade event is worth its weight in gold, and a recent trade show in the capital provided the superb opportunity to connect with like-minded design lovers.
Wellington Design Library hosted their annual Design Day on the 20th of June. This was a trade-only event – a chance for suppliers and designers to browse the latest fabrics and designs and share inspiration and innovation with the industry.
A good event generally starts with a great host, and Wellington Design Library’s owner and director knows how to put on a great get-together.
“Stephanie Bruce is perfect in the role,” says Hildy Kovacs. “The venue is ideal, the food delicious, and everyone is always well looked after.”
An approximate 170-strong crowd attended the popular event, which was set among the Library’s spaces within a design-centric block on Thorndon Quay.
While there is general uncertainty around New Zealand of late, the capital city lived up to the “absolutely positively” branding.
“It was a really confident and constructive day – everyone was upbeat and excited to see what’s coming out,” says Hildy, who attended the event with our Southern Regional Sales Manager Vashti Hammond.
For the team from Kovacs it was helpful to be able to “have a natter” with others in the industry, to catch up with old friends, and to make new contacts.
“The new ranges from the fabric houses are always interesting, and it’s a great opportunity to see everything in the flesh,” says Hildy.
“Being able to get up close and experience new design and construction is so important,” she says. “The comfort of any piece should be one of the primary considerations, which is why we place so much emphasis on trying before buying.”
Kovacs took the opportunity to add some inspired nostalgia to the event with the release of the Ted chair.
“We had a really positive reception to the Ted at Design Day,” says Vashti. “Absolutely.”
